Oborevwori Reaffirms Commitment To Child Welfare On Children’s Day

Children Described as Future of Society
DELTA State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called for collective efforts toward protecting and empowering children as Nigeria marks the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The governor, in a goodwill message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, said children remain critical to the future of society and must be provided with opportunities to succeed.
He urged parents and caregivers to ensure children receive proper guidance, moral upbringing and access to education.
Focus on Child Rights and Welfare
Governor Oborevwori said his administration had continued to prioritise policies aimed at improving the welfare of children across Delta State.
He noted that the domestication of the Child Rights Protection Act reflected the government’s determination to strengthen safeguards for children and protect them from abuse and exploitation.
The governor also emphasised the importance of quality healthcare and education in building a productive future generation.
Free Education and Healthcare Programmes Highlighted
The governor highlighted ongoing investments in free education at the basic and secondary school levels, noting that education remained essential for social and economic advancement.
He also pointed to the state’s free medical treatment programme for children under five years as part of broader efforts to improve healthcare access for families.
According to him, the government would continue to expand initiatives that support child development and welfare across the state.
Appeal to Children
Oborevwori urged children to remain disciplined, law-abiding and committed to their studies.
He encouraged them to develop values that would enable them contribute positively to society and become future leaders capable of driving development in Delta State and Nigeria.
