NIGERIA’S D’Tigress ended their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a heavy 111–56 defeat to France on Sunday.
The African champions struggled from the opening minutes as France quickly established control. Nigeria could not match the French side’s intensity and attacking efficiency.
France maintained its dominance throughout the contest. The gap continued to grow as D’Tigress struggled to contain their opponents on both ends of the court.
Despite their efforts, Nigeria could not produce the comeback needed to change the direction of the game. France remained firmly in control until the final buzzer.
The 55-point defeat marked Nigeria’s third consecutive loss at the tournament. It also ended a campaign that fell short of the expectations surrounding the African champions.
D’Tigress will now shift their focus to the next round of qualifiers. The team will hope to learn from the difficult World Cup experience and return with a stronger performance in future competitions.
