Oborevwori Urges Christians to Rely on God

DELTA State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on Christians to remain steadfast in faith and draw strength from God amid personal and national challenges.

The governor made the appeal at the second session of the 10th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli, held at All Saints Cathedral.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, the governor referenced the biblical teaching that those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength, describing faith as a vital anchor in uncertain times.

Synod Focuses on Holistic Strength

This year’s synod was themed “I Am the Bread of Life: Examining the Source of Our Holistic Strength.”

The theme reflected both spiritual nourishment and broader well-being, including emotional resilience, family stability, and moral direction.

Governor Oborevwori said the gathering provided an important opportunity for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to Christian values.

He also praised the clergy and faithful of the diocese for sustaining evangelical work and using the synod as a platform for purposeful engagement.

Government Recognises Church’s Social Role

The governor acknowledged the continued relevance of the Church in promoting peace, moral values, and unity across society.

According to him, religious institutions remain trusted partners in development and serve as voices of conscience in times of social pressure.

He pledged that his administration would continue supporting initiatives that:

• Promote justice
• Encourage righteousness
• Foster peaceful coexistence

Archbishop Raises National Concerns

Earlier in his episcopal charge, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu reviewed the progress of the Diocese and honoured past leaders who helped shape its growth.

He also addressed pressing national issues, including:

• Effects of fuel subsidy removal
• Rising hunger
• Insecurity
• Early political manoeuvring ahead of 2027 elections

The Archbishop urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to restore hope and improve living conditions for Nigerians.

Call for Civic Responsibility

Beyond spiritual matters, the cleric encouraged citizens to prepare to participate responsibly in the next election cycle.

He stressed that democratic engagement remains a civic duty and that national transformation requires both prayer and participation.

The synod attracted notable guests including Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, Senator Ede Dafinone, lawmakers, council chairmen, bishops, clergy, traditional rulers, and ecumenical representatives.
