Ogume Recreational Park Set For Commissioning In Ndokwa West

Ogume Prepares for Landmark Park Commissioning
RESIDENTS of Ogume are set to witness a major community development milestone with the formal commissioning of the Ogume Recreational Park on 29 April 2026.
Organisers said the event will take place at 10 a.m. and is expected to draw traditional leaders, community stakeholders, government officials, and invited dignitaries.
The project is being described as a significant addition to social infrastructure in the area, offering a dedicated space for leisure, relaxation, and family recreation.
Top Military Officials Expected
According to a statement jointly signed by community leaders Chief Chukwuma Ossaiga, Chief Chukwutem Adibeli, and Chief Prince Ogeleka, the Waidi Shaibu is expected as Special Guest of Honour.
The U.G. Ogeleka will serve as Chief Host.
The presence of senior military officials is expected to give the event added prominence and reflect the importance attached to the project.
More Than a Park
Community representatives say the facility is intended to be more than a recreational centre.
They described it as:
- A symbol of unity
- A sign of progress
- A family-friendly public space
- A platform for social interaction
- A legacy project for future generations
They added that the park reflects a commitment to development while preserving the identity and heritage of the Ogume people.
Why Public Spaces Matter
Urban planners and development experts often note that parks and open recreational spaces contribute to healthier communities.
Such facilities can provide:
- Safe play areas for children
- Relaxation zones for families
- Venues for community events
- Improved environmental aesthetics
- Stronger social cohesion
In many semi-urban and rural communities, access to structured public leisure spaces remains limited.
Community Excitement Builds
Residents of Ogume and neighbouring communities have been encouraged to attend the ceremony, which organisers described as a defining moment in local history.
Many see the park as a visible example of how community-led projects can improve quality of life and inspire further investment.
Outlook
With commissioning now imminent, expectations are high that the new facility will become a central meeting point and a lasting symbol of development in Ndokwa West.
