AKWA Ibom State will observe a work-free day on Friday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visits to inaugurate major infrastructure projects executed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
The state government said the decision would allow workers and residents to join the reception for the President, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and other members of the presidential entourage.
Announcing the arrangements in a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umanah, disclosed that the President would commission several projects during the visit.
Among the major facilities is the new terminal at Victor Attah International Airport. Other projects include an Airport Hospital, Aviation Village and the 7.8-kilometre dualised Ring Road 3.
The commissioning programme will also feature the AkwaGIS Building, Governor’s Office Annex, Security and Command Centre, as well as ARISE Palm Resort.
According to Umanah, the work-free day demonstrates the state government’s recognition of the significance of the presidential visit. It will also allow residents to showcase their hospitality and warmly receive the visiting dignitaries.
Furthermore, he said the visit represents a shared commitment by the Federal and State Governments to national unity, cooperation and sustainable development.
Governor Eno has consequently called on residents to gather at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to welcome Tinubu and his entourage.
He also urged citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and maintain public order during the President’s engagements.
