Oborevwori Convenes Delta Security Summit To Strengthen Collective Action
Oborevwori Hosts High-Level Security Forum
AS part of efforts to strengthen public safety and improve coordination among security stakeholders, the Delta State Government has announced plans to convene the Delta State Security Summit 2026.
The event, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 17 June, at the Government House in Asaba, will bring together key actors from across the state to discuss pressing security concerns and develop collective solutions.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will host the summit, which carries the theme “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” highlighting the need for a shared approach to safeguarding communities.
Gathering Key Actors
The summit will feature participation from security agencies, local government officials, traditional institutions, religious organisations, youth groups, civil society bodies and professional associations.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the objective is to encourage dialogue and strengthen partnerships among stakeholders who play important roles in maintaining peace and order.
The gathering will also provide an opportunity to evaluate existing security measures and identify areas where greater collaboration can improve outcomes.
Promoting Shared Responsibility
Government officials believe that effective security management requires active cooperation between authorities and local communities.
Dr. Emu stressed that while security agencies remain at the forefront of law enforcement, sustainable peace can only be achieved when citizens, community leaders and social institutions actively support preventive and intelligence-gathering efforts.
He noted that the summit seeks to promote this collaborative culture by encouraging open discussions on challenges affecting communities across Delta State.
Charting a Common Path Forward
Beyond identifying security threats, participants are expected to formulate recommendations that can strengthen the state’s overall security framework and enhance community resilience.
The summit comes at a time when governments across the country are increasingly exploring community-driven approaches to tackling criminality, terrorism, drug abuse and other threats to public safety.
Officials say the expected outcomes will help reinforce ongoing security initiatives while building stronger partnerships capable of delivering lasting peace and stability throughout Delta State.
