FALKLAND Nigeria Limited has unveiled plans for the Niger City Waterfront Project, a major development expected to reshape Delta State’s riverfront and strengthen its blue economy. The company said the project will attract private investment, generate employment and support long-term economic growth.
The announcement came during the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba. Company executives described the initiative as a bold effort to convert underutilised wetlands into a modern economic hub. The master-planned city will feature residential estates, commercial districts, tourism facilities, hospitality centres, logistics infrastructure and other strategic developments.
Falkland said it has already invested heavily in the project. The company revealed that one of its dredgers has been operating at the site for nearly two years. It recently acquired another state-of-the-art dredger to speed up land reclamation and site preparation.
The company described the new equipment as a demonstration of its long-term commitment to Delta State. It said the investment reflects confidence in the state’s economic future and the commercial potential of the waterfront project.
Falkland also pointed to its experience in developing Orange Island in the Lagos Lagoon. It said the expertise gained from that 50-hectare reclamation project will guide the delivery of a world-class waterfront city in Delta.
The company praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for creating an investor-friendly environment. It also acknowledged the support of the Secretary to the Delta State Government. According to Falkland, strong collaboration between government and private investors remains essential for delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
The firm pledged to sustain its investments in Delta State. It promised to create jobs, work closely with host communities and contribute to broader economic development. Falkland expressed confidence that the Niger City Waterfront Project will strengthen Delta’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations while expanding opportunities in the blue economy.
