Ndokwa Nation Passes Vote Of Confidence In Oborevwori, Backs 2027 Continuity Agenda ……Condemns Vandalism Of Power Infrastructure, Seeks More Development Projects

THE apex socio-cultural organisation of the Ndokwa people, the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), has passed a vote of confidence in Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, citing what it described as his inclusive leadership style, equitable distribution of projects and commitment to development across the state.

The endorsement came on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the NNU, traditional rulers, elders and political stakeholders from Ndokwa Nation to Government House, Asaba.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, President-General of the NNU, Chief Amaechi Asugwuni, said the visit was aimed at appreciating the governor for several developmental projects and interventions executed in Ndokwa land and other parts of Delta State.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated fairness, accessibility and commitment to the welfare of all ethnic nationalities in the state, earning the trust and support of the Ndokwa people.

Asugwuni particularly commended the completion and handover of Ndokwa House, describing it as a historic project that would serve as a central hub for consultation, planning and the advancement of the Ndokwa ethnic nationality.

He also praised the governor for completing the Asaba-Kwale-Ughelli Road, noting that the project has improved transportation, enhanced economic activities and strengthened connectivity between Ndokwa communities and other parts of the state.

The NNU President-General further lauded Oborevwori’s open-door leadership style, saying the governor has consistently made himself available for dialogue and consultation whenever issues affecting the people are brought before him.

While acknowledging the administration’s achievements, Asugwuni raised concerns over persistent electricity challenges in parts of Ndokwa land and appealed to the state government to facilitate the establishment of the proposed Okpai Step-Down Power Facility to improve power supply in the area.

He, however, strongly condemned the vandalism of electricity infrastructure, describing it as a major setback to development efforts.

“As a people, we condemn in the strongest terms every act of vandalism directed at public infrastructure. We cannot continue to demand development while allowing a few individuals to sabotage facilities meant to improve our lives,” he said.

He apologised for the losses caused by recent attacks on power facilities and assured the governor that community leaders were strengthening local security measures to prevent future occurrences.

The delegation also appealed for the siting of additional tertiary institutions and critical infrastructure projects in Ndokwa Nation, including key road projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving connectivity.

Passing the vote of confidence, Asugwuni said the decision reflected the collective position of the National Executive Council of the NNU and the entire Ndokwa ethnic nationality.

“On behalf of the National Executive Council of Ndokwa Neku Union and the entire Ndokwa Nation, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in recognition of his exemplary, inclusive and development-oriented leadership,” he declared.

Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the people of Ndokwa Nation for their support and confidence in his administration, assuring them of his commitment to ensuring balanced development across all parts of Delta State.

The governor praised Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, for his dedication and contributions to governance, describing him as a dependable partner in the administration’s efforts to deliver development to the people.

He also commended the leadership of the NNU, particularly its President-General, Chief Amaechi Asugwuni, for his commitment to the progress and unity of the Ndokwa people.

Addressing concerns over electricity supply, Oborevwori acknowledged the challenges facing affected communities and blamed repeated acts of vandalism for slowing efforts to restore power infrastructure.

He disclosed that the state government had approved additional funding for ongoing electrification projects and assured residents that work would soon commence in affected areas.

The governor further revealed that the government was engaging the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other stakeholders to address power challenges, while noting that the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility remained under active consideration.

Oborevwori also commended the Ndokwa Nation for publicly condemning vandalism, stressing that the destruction of public infrastructure increases project costs and delays development.

On the request for additional higher institutions, the governor noted that Ndokwa land already hosts a federal university and urged stakeholders to focus on strengthening existing institutions.

He assured the delegation that several road projects requested by the people had either been approved or were already under construction.

The governor highlighted the strategic positions occupied by Ndokwa sons and daughters in his administration, including the offices of the Deputy Governor, Commissioner for Energy and Commissioner for Finance, assuring them that their interests remained adequately represented.

Speaking on the political outlook ahead of 2027, Oborevwori said the existing political arrangement in Delta State promotes stability, continuity and inclusiveness, adding that his administration would remain focused on delivering projects rather than engaging in unnecessary publicity.

“I am governor for all Deltans. What I do for Ndokwa, I will do for Isoko, Ijaw, Urhobo, Anioma and every other part of the state. The evidence is visible across Delta State. Our projects are spread throughout the state. We are showing results and we are showing our work,” he stated.

The governor thanked the delegation for presenting a united front comprising traditional rulers, lawmakers, local government leaders and political stakeholders, assuring them of the government’s continued partnership in advancing the development, unity and prosperity of Delta State.
