Oborevwori Approves Emergency Intervention on Failed Warri-Benin Highway Section
Governor Responds to Mounting Public Complaints
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the failed Mosogar-Oghara section of the Warri-Benin Highway, ordering emergency repairs to ease the growing hardship experienced by thousands of motorists and commuters on one of Nigeria’s busiest federal road corridors.
The intervention followed persistent complaints from road users across conventional and social media platforms over the deteriorating condition of the strategic highway, where deep potholes, failed pavement and worsening traffic congestion have significantly disrupted movement of people and goods.
Announcing the governor’s approval on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the decision underscores the administration’s commitment to responding swiftly to infrastructure challenges that directly affect the welfare and economic activities of citizens.
State Steps In Despite Federal Responsibility
Although the Warri-Benin Highway falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, Izeze explained that Governor Oborevwori considered it necessary for Delta State to intervene because of the severe hardship suffered daily by commuters and the road’s strategic importance to the South-South economy.
He noted that the governor approved immediate remedial works to restore traffic flow, improve road safety and provide temporary relief while awaiting comprehensive reconstruction of the highway by the appropriate federal authorities.
According to the commissioner, the emergency repairs are intended to minimise travel delays, reduce vehicle damage and improve overall mobility along one of Nigeria’s most heavily trafficked highways.
Contractor Mobilises to Site
Izeze disclosed that Obakpor Engineering Construction Company had already mobilised to the affected stretch with construction materials, including stones and sand, marking the commencement of the rehabilitation exercise.
He expressed optimism that the intervention would substantially reduce congestion, improve driving conditions and lessen the economic losses associated with prolonged traffic delays on the corridor.
The commissioner also described the project as another demonstration of the Oborevwori administration’s responsiveness to the needs of residents and road users.
Strategic Highway Supports Regional Economy
The Warri-Benin Highway serves as a major transportation artery connecting Delta State and the wider South-South region to other parts of Nigeria. The corridor accommodates thousands of private vehicles, commercial buses and heavy-duty trucks transporting petroleum products, agricultural produce and manufactured goods daily.
In recent months, the failed Mosogar-Oghara section has become one of the most problematic stretches of the highway, contributing to prolonged gridlock, increased transportation costs, frequent vehicle breakdowns and heightened safety risks.
According to the state government, the emergency repairs will provide immediate relief pending full-scale reconstruction by the Federal Government.

Izeze added that the governor’s decision reflects the growing collaboration between the Delta State and Federal Governments in delivering projects that directly improve citizens’ quality of life.
He described the intervention as a practical expression of the shared development objectives embodied in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, stressing that infrastructure development remains central to economic growth and public welfare.
