Tompolo Calls For Calm Amid Warri Ward Delineation Tensions, Urges Peaceful Resolution
NIGER Delta leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has appealed for calm following the ongoing protests and occupation of oil and gas facilities in parts of Warri Federal Constituency over the ward delineation dispute.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tompolo expressed concern over the growing tensions arising from the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the ward delineation process in Warri Federal Constituency.
The Ijaw leader acknowledged the mass action by women and youths from several communities who have occupied oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri River areas since June 8, 2026, in protest against the lingering controversy.
According to him, many patriotic Nigerians have continued to call for a peaceful resolution of the crisis, adding that he fully aligns with such calls.
“Since yesterday, June 8, 2026, we have all witnessed the mass action by peaceful women and youths from our various communities occupying oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri River areas. Many well-meaning Nigerians have called for a peaceful resolution of the impasse, and I join them in making the same appeal,” he said.
Tompolo described the Ijaw people as a peaceful ethnic nationality with a long-standing tradition of resolving disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding.
He warned against any attempt by individuals or groups to hijack the protest or allow the situation to degenerate into violence.
“The Ijaw nation has from time immemorial been known for its peaceful disposition, and we cannot deviate from our history. The current political situation and the ongoing mass action must not be allowed to be hijacked or degenerate into violence of any sort,” he stated.
The former Niger Delta agitator called on all parties involved to remain calm while efforts are made to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
He also announced plans for an immediate meeting of community leaders to discuss the situation and chart a peaceful way forward.
“I am calling for calm no matter the situation. I am also calling for a meeting of community leaders to meet immediately so that we can collectively devise a way forward. We must all join hands in seeking a peaceful resolution to this impasse,” he added.
Tompolo further urged INEC to take the necessary steps to address the concerns surrounding the delineation exercise, insisting that the electoral body must act in a manner that restores confidence and peace in Warri and its surrounding communities.
He appealed to residents of the area, regardless of ethnic affiliation, to exercise restraint and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.
“We call on the people of Warri, whether Ijaw, Itsekiri or Urhobo, to remain calm and patiently await the right actions from INEC. Peace remains in the best interest of all communities,” he said.
The call comes amid growing tensions in Warri Federal Constituency following disputes over the implementation of the ward and polling unit delineation exercise ordered by the Supreme Court and carried out by INEC.
