Delta Suspends Works Commissioner Izeze Indefinitely Over Alleged Assault On Temple

THE Delta State Government has suspended its Works Commissioner, Reuben Izeze, indefinitely over allegations surrounding the assault of Simon Mudi, also known as Temple.
The suspension took effect immediately.
The Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, announced the decision in a statement on Monday 10 August 2026.
Emu said the government suspended Izeze to give security agencies room to conduct an impartial investigation.
The allegations concern an assault on Mudi at the Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun.
The state government said public safety and the rule of law must remain paramount.
It added that those principles must be protected even when allegations involve officials or institutions of government.
The suspension comes after reports that Izeze was arrested and taken to the Ekpan Police Station for questioning.
The reported development followed an incident on 26 July, when Mudi was allegedly attacked at PTI.
Witnesses reportedly claimed that suspected thugs assaulted him and inflicted serious injuries.
Mudi was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention, according to earlier reports.
The allegations have generated significant public interest across Delta State.
Yet several aspects of the incident remain unclear.
Authorities have not publicly established the circumstances that led to the alleged attack. They have also not conclusively established any link between Izeze and those allegedly involved.
The latest suspension does not therefore amount to a declaration of guilt.
Investigators must still determine what occurred, who participated in the alleged assault and whether the commissioner played any role.
The government’s decision could also help investigators operate without concerns over the commissioner’s official position.
Police authorities had not, at the time of earlier reports, issued a comprehensive public account of Izeze’s reported detention or the alleged assault.
The investigation is now expected to provide greater clarity.
For the state government, the central issue is the enforcement of law and order regardless of the status of anyone connected to the case.
The eventual findings will determine the next steps concerning Izeze and any other person found to have been involved.
