Asagba Commends Niger Bridge Road Reconstruction, Demands Faster Completion

Asagba Expresses Satisfaction With Ongoing Asaba-Niger Bridge Road Reconstruction
Monarch Applauds Quality of Infrastructure Delivery
THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has expressed satisfaction with the quality of reconstruction work currently ongoing along the road corridor stretching from Maryam Babangida Way to the Niger Bridge axis on the Asaba-Benin-Onitsha Expressway.
The monarch gave the commendation while receiving the Project Manager of Hartland Nig Limited, Engr. Rawad Yehya, who visited the palace to brief him on the progress recorded on the strategic road project.
Road Project Already Easing Traffic Pressure
Speaking during the meeting, the Asagba noted that the reconstruction work had already started bringing relief to commuters, motorists, and residents who use the busy route daily.
He observed that the standard of work executed so far reflected professionalism and commitment to durable infrastructure development, particularly on a road corridor regarded as one of the major gateways linking the South-East to other parts of the country.
The monarch stressed that the road plays a critical role in interstate transportation, trade, and commercial activities, making timely completion of the project essential to economic growth and mobility.
Call for Accelerated Pace Amid Strategic Importance
While commending Hartland Nig Limited for the quality of work, Prof. Azinge urged the contractors to accelerate the pace of construction to ensure completion within a reasonable timeframe.
He emphasised that the increasing volume of traffic along the axis requires urgent intervention to reduce congestion and improve road safety, especially during festive periods when vehicular movement intensifies.
The monarch also assured the contractors of the support and cooperation of the Asaba community, reaffirming the palace’s commitment to initiatives capable of improving infrastructure and the welfare of residents.
Contractor Explains Challenges Affecting Project Timeline
Earlier, Engr. Rawad Yehya thanked the Asaba community and the palace for their cooperation since the commencement of the project.
According to him, rising petroleum product prices have affected the transportation of construction materials to the site, slowing aspects of the work schedule.
He also explained that the approaching rainy season could further impact operations due to material wastage and difficult working conditions.
Despite the challenges, the project manager assured residents that the company remained committed to accelerating work and achieving significant progress before the festive season.
