Royal Reunion As Asaba Monarch Strengthens African Ties In Freetown

Asagba of Asaba Receives Heroic Welcome in Sierra Leone During Cultural Exchange Visit
Royal Arrival Marks Historic African Cultural Reunion
THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, alongside members of his entourage, has arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to a warm and ceremonial welcome from the King and people of Selenge Kingdom in Bo District.
The reception, marked by traditional rites and colourful displays, underscored the importance of strengthening long-standing African cultural ties that were disrupted during the colonial era.
Community leaders and residents gathered in large numbers to honour the visiting monarch, celebrating what many described as a symbolic reconnection among African peoples with shared histories and values.
Traditional Rulers Invoke Peace and Unity
At the centre of the visit was a ceremonial meeting between the Asagba of Asaba and Chief Desmond Mahayei Kargobai II, Paramount Chief of Selenga Chiefdom in the Western Region of Sierra Leone.
Both traditional rulers were said to have invoked their ancestors in prayers for peace, unity and mutual understanding between their communities.
Observers described the moment as a powerful expression of African spirituality, heritage and the enduring relevance of traditional institutions in promoting peace.
Renewing Bonds Beyond Borders
The visit also highlighted growing calls for stronger intercultural exchanges among African kingdoms, communities and institutions.
Supporters of the initiative noted that while colonial boundaries separated many African peoples, cultural diplomacy offers an opportunity to rebuild relationships through heritage, education and mutual respect.
The Asagba’s visit is expected to open doors for future collaborations in tourism, culture and people-to-people relations between Asaba and communities in Sierra Leone.
