A New Legislative Phase Begins
THE Delta State House of Assembly has commenced the Fourth Session of the Eighth Assembly with a renewed call for unity, discipline and commitment to democratic governance.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, while declaring the session open during plenary, urged members to remain focused on delivering quality legislation and providing effective representation for their constituents.
He described the new session as a strategic opportunity for lawmakers to consolidate on previous achievements and strengthen the role of the legislature in promoting good governance across the state.
Thanksgiving and Reflection on Legislative Achievements
The Speaker reflected on activities marking the third anniversary of the Eighth Assembly, particularly the thanksgiving service that brought together political leaders, traditional institutions, religious bodies and other stakeholders.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other distinguished guests who attended the event, noting that their participation underscored the importance of collaboration among key institutions in the state.
According to Guwor, the anniversary celebration served as a moment of reflection on the Assembly’s accomplishments over the last three years and reinforced the commitment of members to legislative excellence.
He stated that the House remains dedicated to enacting laws that improve governance, strengthen institutions and enhance the welfare of citizens.
Legislative Priorities for the Fourth Session
As lawmakers return to parliamentary duties, the Speaker emphasized the importance of focusing on legislative initiatives capable of addressing the needs of the people.
He stressed that citizens expect practical solutions to developmental challenges and called on members to approach their responsibilities with dedication and integrity.
According to him, effective lawmaking, rigorous oversight and purposeful representation will remain central priorities throughout the Fourth Session.
Guwor noted that the legislature must continue to function as a responsive institution that reflects the aspirations and concerns of the people.

The Speaker also highlighted the value of maintaining healthy working relationships among the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government.
He argued that stronger intergovernmental cooperation would accelerate development and improve the effectiveness of public policies.
The Assembly, he said, remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace, economic growth and social development while preserving its constitutional independence.

Expressing confidence in the capacity of members, Guwor praised the unity and cooperation that have characterised the House since the inauguration of the Eighth Assembly.
He said the same spirit would be required to successfully navigate the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Session.
As legislative activities resume, the Speaker called on members to remain guided by the interests of the people and the principles of accountability and service.
He concluded by wishing lawmakers a successful session and reaffirmed the Assembly’s determination to contribute meaningfully to the continued development and prosperity of Delta State.
