US President Donald Trump has directed his anger at Fox News following Republican losses in the midterm elections. According to the president, the network contributed to the party’s poor performance by giving Democratic politicians repeated opportunities to challenge conservative candidates.
Trump made the accusation in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform. He argued that Fox News had undermined Republican prospects by consistently featuring Democratic opposition figures.
“Fox News bears responsibility for these losses by constantly and consistently putting on the Democrat opposition, and worse,” he stated.
He also questioned the network’s decision to host former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. In particular, Trump criticised the former mayor for appearing on air and offering advice on national governance. He further claimed that de Blasio had left office in disgrace.
The dispute is not entirely new. Throughout the election cycle, Trump repeatedly criticised Fox News presenters and editorial decisions whenever their coverage departed from his political positions. Nevertheless, his latest comments place the network directly in the debate over the Republican Party’s electoral setbacks.
At the same time, the emerging results have created fresh political challenges for the president. US media projections suggested that Democrats were on course to win control of the Senate. They also appeared likely to secure a majority in the House of Representatives.
Such an outcome could significantly constrain Trump’s legislative ambitions. With Democrats potentially controlling both chambers, the administration could face greater resistance to its proposals and priorities. Therefore, the midterm results could reshape the balance of power in Washington and intensify tensions between the White House, congressional Democrats and sections of the media.
