Police Debunk Bandit Invasion Rumour In Ebonyi Community

Police Move Swiftly to Verify Viral Allegation
THE Ebonyi State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that bandits and Fulani herdsmen had invaded Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area.
The command said it immediately launched an investigation after a viral video surfaced online claiming that armed groups were hiding in bushes around the community and posing a threat to residents.
Commissioner Orders Security Assessment
According to the police, Commissioner of Police Hope Urunwa Okafor directed the Divisional Police Officer of Edda Division to verify the claims while tactical teams from the state headquarters were deployed to conduct extensive security operations in the area.
The teams reportedly carried out thorough searches of forests, bushes, and surrounding locations identified in the video to determine whether any security threat existed.
No Evidence of Bandits Found
Following the operation, the police stated that no evidence of bandits, armed herders, or any criminal camp was discovered in Nguzu Edda Community.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the command described the report as false and misleading, insisting that the information was designed to create fear and panic among residents.
Residents Urged to Remain Calm
The police advised residents to disregard the viral claims and continue their lawful activities without fear.
CP Okafor assured citizens that adequate security measures remain in place across Ebonyi State to protect lives and property.
She also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies rather than relying on unverified social media reports.
