D’Tigress’ Late Fightback Fails As Hungary Snatch Narrow World Cup Win

NIGERIA’S D’Tigress suffered another narrow defeat at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup on Saturday, falling 71–67 to Hungary in their second Group game.

The Nigerian team fought hard throughout the closely contested encounter. However, Hungary kept its composure when it mattered most and secured a four-point victory.

D’Tigress entered the final quarter behind but refused to give up. The team launched a spirited comeback and cut Hungary’s lead as the game entered its decisive stages.

Nigeria’s late push put the Hungarians under pressure. Still, Hungary remained composed and made enough plays in the closing minutes to protect its advantage.

Despite the defeat, D’Tigress showed determination as they battled until the final whistle.

The result, however, leaves Nigeria still searching for its first win of the tournament. D’Tigress had also lost their opening Group game.

Nigeria will now need to regroup and produce a stronger performance in its next outing as the team fights to keep its campaign alive.
