Governor Reinforces Inclusive Governance Agenda
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, unity, and people-centred leadership, while urging members of the State Advisory Council to deepen their engagement in shaping policy direction.
The governor made the call during a meeting of the council at Government House in Asaba, where he commended members for their contributions to governance and development in the state.
Advisory Council as Pillar of Governance
Oborevwori described the council, led by Samuel Oyovbaire, as a critical institution whose advisory role remains essential to informed decision-making.
He noted that the council’s recommendations help government assess performance, identify gaps, and adjust policies to meet the needs of citizens more effectively.
“At this stage of our governance journey, your reports are not just necessary—they are critical,” the governor stated.
Call for More Frequent and Practical Recommendations
The governor urged council members to increase the frequency of their reports and ensure their recommendations are practical, concise, and solution-driven.
He also encouraged members to extend their engagements beyond formal meetings by gathering grassroots feedback from communities across the state.
According to him, such insights are vital for aligning government policies with real-life challenges faced by residents.
Unity, Diversity and Sustainable Development
Oborevwori emphasised that Delta State’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths, noting that his administration has continued to promote inclusiveness across ethnic and social lines.
He maintained that sustainable development can only thrive in an environment of unity, fairness, and collective responsibility.
The governor also referenced his recent lecture in Lagos, where he advocated inclusive governance as a pathway to national unity.
Political Responsibility and Leadership Selection
Addressing the ongoing political primaries, Oborevwori charged council members to promote competence, integrity, and capacity in leadership selection.
He warned against prioritising sectional or personal interests, stressing that leadership choices must reflect the collective good of the state.
Reflection, Condolence and Commitment
The governor called for an honest assessment of his administration’s performance as it approaches three years in office, noting that governance must be measured by tangible impact.
He also commiserated with the state over the passing of former Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue, describing him as a dedicated public servant.
Reaffirming his leadership philosophy, Oborevwori pledged to continue governing with humility and a commitment to unity and progress.
