Oborevwori Hails Joe Omene @80, Celebrates Legacy Of Service

Oborevwori Salutes Elder Statesman at Milestone Celebration
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has joined family members, associates and the Urhobo nation in celebrating former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Joe Omene, on the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary.
In a congratulatory message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor described Omene as one of the Niger Delta’s most respected leaders whose contributions to community development, ethnic harmony and national progress have earned him widespread admiration.
According to Oborevwori, the Mosogar-born leader has remained a symbol of courage, integrity and commitment to the welfare of his people throughout decades of public service.
Recognising a Lifetime of Leadership
The governor noted that Chief Omene’s tenure as President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union helped strengthen the voice of the Urhobo people and advanced efforts aimed at fostering unity and development across Delta State and the wider Niger Delta region.
He praised the octogenarian for consistently championing justice, peace and equitable development, adding that his influence extends beyond ethnic and regional boundaries.
Oborevwori said Omene’s dedication to public causes and community advancement has inspired generations of leaders and remains a reference point for selfless service.
Contributions to Peace and Development
The governor further acknowledged the elder statesman’s role in promoting peaceful coexistence and socio-economic growth within the Urhobo nation and Delta State.
He said Omene’s interventions on issues affecting the Niger Delta have helped shape constructive dialogue and strengthened efforts aimed at sustainable development.
According to him, leaders such as Omene continue to serve as valuable reservoirs of wisdom whose counsel remains important in addressing contemporary challenges.

Congratulating the elder statesman on attaining the age of 80, Oborevwori prayed for God’s continued guidance, good health and longevity.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our great leader, Chief Joe Omene, as he clocks 80 years,” the governor stated.
