Oborevwori Honours Distinguished Statesman at 85
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated former Minister of Information and renowned political scientist, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, on his 85th birthday, describing him as an accomplished scholar, elder statesman and patriot whose lifelong contributions to governance, academia and nation-building have left an enduring legacy.
In a congratulatory message issued on Tuesday in Asaba through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said Professor Oyovbaire has distinguished himself through decades of dedicated service to Nigeria, earning widespread respect for his scholarship, leadership and commitment to democratic values.
Oborevwori noted that the professor’s career has spanned academia, public administration and national policy, making him one of Delta State’s most respected personalities and an influential voice in governance and political development.
Recognition of Service in Governance & Peacebuilding
The governor commended Oyovbaire for his unwavering commitment to peace, democracy and responsible leadership, particularly through his role as Chairman of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council.
According to him, the council has continued to play a significant role in promoting dialogue, strengthening peaceful coexistence and fostering stability across Delta State under the professor’s leadership.
Oborevwori also recalled Oyovbaire’s service as Minister of Information during the administration of former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, noting that he contributed meaningfully to government communication, public policy and national administration during a defining period in Nigeria’s political history.

The governor observed that Professor Oyovbaire’s intellectual depth, administrative experience and scholarly achievements continue to serve as valuable resources for successive administrations in Delta State and beyond.
