Oborevwori Donates Five Operational Vehicles To Delta Correctional Service

Delta Strengthens Correctional Operations with New Vehicles
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has donated five brand-new operational vehicles, popularly known as “Green Marias,” to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, justice administration and public safety across the state.
The vehicles were presented during a ceremony at Government House, Asaba, where the governor said the intervention forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to improve institutional capacity under the Enhanced Peace and Security pillar of the MORE Agenda.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Oborevwori said the state government would continue collaborating with security agencies to create a safer environment conducive to sustainable development.
Support Aimed at Improving Logistics and Efficiency
The governor noted that efficient correctional administration depends largely on reliable logistics, mobility and operational readiness.
According to him, the newly donated vehicles will improve the movement of correctional personnel and inmates where necessary, enhance operational response, strengthen supervision and coordination, and improve overall service delivery.
He stated that equipping correctional officers with modern operational tools would enable them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities more effectively while contributing to a more efficient justice system.
Oborevwori stressed that the donation reflects the government’s practical commitment to strengthening institutions responsible for maintaining law, order and public safety.
Commitment to Peace and Security
The governor reiterated that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role remains vital to the protection of lives, property and the administration of justice in Delta State.
He explained that his administration would continue supporting federal security agencies operating within the state, describing peace and security as indispensable foundations for economic growth and social development.
“As I hand over these vehicles today, I reaffirm the commitment of the Delta State Government to working with all security and justice institutions in building a safer and more secure Delta State,” the governor said.
He further urged officers of the command to ensure the vehicles are properly maintained and deployed strictly for official assignments with professionalism, transparency and accountability.
Correctional Service Commends State Government
Responding on behalf of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Nwackuche, the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Mr. Chuke Idoko, expressed appreciation to the governor for the timely intervention.
He described the donation as a significant boost to the operational capacity of the command and assured that the vehicles would be deployed responsibly for the purposes for which they were provided.
According to him, the additional logistics would strengthen correctional operations across the state.
Government Officials Witness Presentation
The presentation ceremony attracted several senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, commissioners and other top government functionaries, underscoring the administration’s continued emphasis on strengthening collaboration between the state government and federal security institutions.
