Medical Equipment, Facility Upgrades Set For Oshimili South Health Centres

Oshimili South Rolls Out Healthcare Intervention to Improve Community Medical Services
Vice Chairperson Prioritises Primary Healthcare Development
A major healthcare intervention aimed at strengthening primary healthcare services is underway in Oshimili South Local Government Area as the Executive Vice Chairperson of the council, Hon. Chief Mrs. Chinye Hobobo Uso, begins the renovation of health facilities and distribution of medical equipment across selected centres.
The project, undertaken as part of her annual constituency intervention programme, focuses on addressing infrastructure deficits and improving access to essential medical services in local communities.
The initiative follows a comprehensive evaluation of healthcare facilities within the council area.
Findings Prompt Immediate Action
According to Hon. Hobobo Uso, inspections carried out across primary healthcare centres revealed significant challenges affecting effective service delivery.
She explained that some facilities required urgent repairs, while others lacked basic equipment needed to provide quality healthcare services to residents.
The findings informed the decision to channel resources toward healthcare infrastructure and equipment support as a strategic intervention capable of delivering direct benefits to the people.
Modern Equipment Arrive for Distribution
Receiving the equipment at the council secretariat in Asaba, the Vice Chairperson said the supplies would soon be formally handed over to Medical Officers responsible for managing the healthcare facilities.
The equipment package includes hospital beds, diagnostic tools, maternal and reproductive healthcare equipment, treatment devices and Personal Protective Equipment.
She noted that access to modern medical equipment remains critical to improving patient care and supporting healthcare workers in delivering efficient services.
Strengthening the First Line of Healthcare
Describing primary healthcare as the foundation of community health systems, Hon. Hobobo Uso stressed the importance of investing in facilities that provide frontline healthcare services.
She observed that primary healthcare centres play a central role in disease prevention, routine treatment, maternal healthcare and public health awareness.
According to her, revitalising these centres is essential because they account for the majority of healthcare interactions experienced by citizens throughout their lives.
She added that Delta State’s health insurance framework has also expanded opportunities for residents to access affordable healthcare services through a subsidised coverage programme.
Infrastructure Upgrade Underway
Beyond equipment distribution, renovation projects have already commenced in a number of healthcare centres across Oshimili South.
The ongoing works are expected to improve facility conditions, create a more conducive environment for patients and healthcare personnel, and enhance the overall functionality of the centres.
Officials involved in the project expressed confidence that the upgrades would strengthen healthcare delivery and increase public confidence in primary healthcare institutions.
Commitment to Grassroots Development
Hon. Hobobo Uso attributed the success of the intervention to the support provided by the Delta State Government and the leadership of Oshimili South Local Government Council.
She thanked Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for policies that continue to extend development benefits to grassroots communities and acknowledged the support of the council chairman, Hon. High Chief Ezenyili Kelvin Obi.
The Vice Chairperson reiterated her commitment to projects that directly improve the quality of life of residents, noting that healthcare remains one of the most important areas requiring sustained investment.
She expressed confidence that the intervention would leave a lasting impact on healthcare delivery and community well-being throughout Oshimili South Local Government Area.
