Iran & Israel Exchange Missile Strikes, Ending Fragile Ceasefire & Escalating Regional War

Ceasefire Collapses After Renewed Violence
THE fragile ceasefire in the Middle East has effectively collapsed after Iran and Israel exchanged a series of missile strikes, marking a sharp escalation in their ongoing regional conflict.
Iran launched multiple missiles toward Israel late Sunday, targeting the Ramat David Air Base near Haifa, in what it described as retaliation for Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
Israel responded with airstrikes on Iranian-linked targets, with explosions reported in Tehran, Tabriz, and Isfahan, further deepening the crisis.
Lebanon Becomes Flashpoint
The latest escalation follows Israeli missile strikes on the Dahieh district in southern Beirut, which Iran and its allies consider a violation of the existing ceasefire framework.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported at least two deaths and 20 injuries in the strikes, intensifying regional outrage.
Iran accused Israel of crossing “all red lines,” citing repeated attacks across Lebanon and alleged violations involving Iranian-linked maritime interests in the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman, and the Indian Ocean.
Iran Warns of Wider Retaliation
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that Sunday’s missile launch was only a “warning,” stating that further attacks would trigger a broader response.
Iran also accused both Israel and the United States of failing to honour ceasefire commitments, escalating diplomatic tensions further.
Iranian authorities additionally announced the temporary closure of western airspace as a precautionary measure.
Regional Actors Enter the Conflict
The conflict widened further as Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Israel and threatened to block Israeli-linked shipping routes in the Red Sea.
The development signals the growing regionalisation of the conflict beyond direct Iran–Israel confrontation.
Diplomatic Efforts Falter Amid Escalation
US President Donald Trump urged Iran to return to negotiations, warning against further escalation and calling for renewed talks with Washington.
However, peace discussions between Iran and the United States have stalled over disagreements regarding nuclear enrichment and strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite earlier signals of a possible agreement, no formal deal has been reached.
A Region on the Edge
With retaliatory strikes continuing and ceasefire terms effectively broken, fears are growing that the conflict could expand into a broader regional war involving multiple state and non-state actors.
The situation remains highly volatile, with further military responses anticipated from both sides.
