Ijaw Group Commends Tinubu, Oborevwori Over Warri Peace Efforts

Ijaw Group Applauds Intervention in Warri Delineation Dispute
THE Ijaw Political Grassroots Development Movement (IPGDM) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for their roles in addressing the lingering ward delineation dispute involving indigenous communities in Warri and surrounding areas.
The group described the intervention as a significant step toward restoring peace, stability and mutual understanding among the ethnic nationalities that make up Warri Federal Constituency.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, and Secretary, Hon. Omoun Ebi, the organisation noted that the efforts of both leaders had helped create an atmosphere conducive to dialogue and peaceful engagement.
Call for Continued Dialogue Among Ethnic Nationalities
IPGDM also praised the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic groups for demonstrating commitment to peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement in resolving contentious issues.
According to the group, the willingness of stakeholders from the three nationalities to embrace dialogue represents a positive development capable of strengthening unity and reducing tensions within the region.
The organisation urged community leaders, political actors and residents to continue prioritising peaceful discussions as a means of addressing differences and preventing avoidable conflicts.
Peace Essential for Economic Growth
The group stressed that peace and stability in Warri remain critical to the economic prosperity of Delta State, particularly because of the area’s strategic importance to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
It noted that uninterrupted peace would not only encourage investment but also support sustainable development and improve the welfare of residents across the region.
“It is imperative to state that peace in Warri and its environs is vital for oil and gas production and the overall development of Delta State. As the administration of our indefatigable Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, continues to advocate, we appeal to the three ethnic groups in the area to give peace a chance and live in harmony,” the group stated.
Traditional Rulers Urged to Strengthen Peace Efforts
The organisation called on traditional rulers across Warri Federal Constituency to continue providing leadership and guidance in promoting unity among their communities.
According to the group, monarchs occupy strategic positions as custodians of culture and tradition and possess the moral authority needed to encourage peaceful coexistence.
IPGDM maintained that stronger collaboration among traditional institutions, community leaders and residents would help attract development and foster long-term social cohesion.
Support for Ongoing Reconciliation Initiatives
Reaffirming its support for all ongoing peace-building efforts, the group encouraged stakeholders to avoid actions capable of reigniting tensions.
It further appealed to residents to build on existing relationships that have evolved over centuries through intermarriage, trade and cultural interaction.
The organisation concluded by commending President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for engaging critical stakeholders and helping to restore calm in Warri and neighbouring communities, expressing optimism that sustained dialogue would strengthen peace and development across the area.
