Akwa Ibom Flags Off New Health and Infrastructure Projects in Oron
Governor Commissions Model Primary Health Centre
AKWA Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has commissioned a Model Primary Health Centre in Oron Local Government Area as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, the governor said the project fulfilled a key campaign promise aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services, particularly in underserved communities.
According to him, the newly inaugurated facility is among 31 model primary healthcare centres constructed across the state under his administration.
Facility Designed for Round-the-Clock Healthcare
Governor Eno explained that the health centre was designed to provide 24-hour medical services, with residential accommodation included for doctors and medical personnel.
He added that the state government had also introduced special incentives for doctors serving in rural communities to encourage improved healthcare delivery outside urban centres.
The governor said the administration remained committed to strengthening the primary healthcare system as part of broader efforts to improve public health outcomes across the state.
Roads, Youth Centre and Administrative Block Also Commissioned
Beyond the healthcare project, the governor also inaugurated other infrastructure projects in Oron.
The projects include a youth-friendly centre, the 2.1-kilometre Ukpong Street, the 2.1-kilometre Effiong Essang Street with an 800-metre discharge drainage system, as well as a new administrative block constructed by the Oron Local Government Council.
Officials said the projects were intended to improve mobility, youth development, and administrative efficiency within the area.
