Environmental Sanitation Drive Ends Across Key Areas Of Asaba

Capital Territory Records Successful Clean-Up Exercise
THE Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has successfully concluded its ongoing environmental sanitation and clean-up exercise aimed at improving cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability across strategic locations within the capital territory.
The exercise, which formed part of the agency’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner and more organized urban environment, covered several high-traffic areas and public spaces that require regular environmental attention due to increasing human and vehicular activities.
Strategic Locations Targeted
On the final day of the operation, sanitation teams focused on key locations including the area opposite Government House, Summit Junction by the Pedestrian Bridge, and sections of the Airport Road corridor where mop-up activities were carried out.
Officials said the exercise involved extensive sweeping, desilting of drainage channels, clearing of accumulated waste, and evacuation of refuse from public spaces. Waste collection teams also ensured that debris and litter were properly transported to designated disposal sites.
The targeted intervention was designed to address environmental concerns in some of the busiest parts of the capital territory, where daily commercial and transportation activities often contribute to waste accumulation.
Promoting a Cleaner and Healthier Environment
According to the agency, the sanitation campaign was undertaken to enhance environmental aesthetics while also reducing potential health risks associated with indiscriminate waste disposal.
Environmental experts have consistently emphasized the importance of routine sanitation exercises in preventing flooding, reducing pollution, and minimizing the spread of disease-causing organisms, particularly during periods of increased rainfall.
The clean-up initiative also aligns with broader efforts to promote responsible environmental practices and encourage residents to take greater ownership of their surroundings.
Appreciation to Residents
The DSCTDA expressed gratitude to residents, business operators, motorists, and other stakeholders who cooperated throughout the duration of the exercise.
The agency noted that public participation remains critical to sustaining the gains achieved through sanitation campaigns and urged residents to continue observing proper waste management practices.
Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining environmental standards across the capital territory through regular monitoring, enforcement, and community engagement programmes aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
