Oborevwori Orders Emergency Flood Intervention In Sapele, Oghara, Ekpan, Others

THE Delta State Government has ordered emergency measures to tackle flooding in Sapele and other communities affected by rising water levels.
Commissioner for Environment, Moses Ogodo, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Sapele.
Ogodo said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had directed his ministry to prioritise communities with the highest number of flood complaints.
Those areas include Sapele, Agbarho, Ekpan and Oghara.
According to the commissioner, his team has already moved into Sapele to assess the situation. He added that equipment mobilisation would begin immediately.
Ogodo linked the worsening flooding partly to unusual rainfall across the state.
He noted that the expected August break in rainfall did not occur this year. As a result, several communities now face increased pressure from rising water levels.
The commissioner said approved government memos would allow emergency intervention to begin in the affected areas by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Meanwhile, requests for flood interventions in Uzere, Abraka, Asaba and parts of Ughelli North remain pending approval.
Ogodo assured residents that the government would address flooding across the state rather than concentrate its response on one community.
He also appealed for patience and confidence in the administration. The commissioner described Oborevwori as a listening governor who was responding to residents’ concerns.
Ogodo said the government remained determined to reduce the impact of flooding before the end of the rainy season.
