Dennis Osadebay University Among Nigeria’s Fastest-Growing Institutions, Says Funkekeme Solomon

State Government Highlights University’s Rapid Development
THE Delta State Government has described Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing tertiary institutions, citing sustained government investment, improved infrastructure and a strong commitment to academic excellence as key drivers of its progress.
Senior Policy Adviser on Labour Relations and Service Compact with All Nigerians (SERVICOM), Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, made the assertion during an interactive session on SERVICOM at the university, where he reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to strengthening public service delivery and expanding educational opportunities across the state.
According to Solomon, the administration’s continued investment in higher education reflects its determination to position Delta State’s institutions among the country’s leading centres of learning.
SERVICOM Reintroduced to Improve Public Service Delivery
Solomon said Governor Oborevwori’s decision to revive SERVICOM demonstrates the government’s resolve to institutionalise efficiency, transparency and accountability across ministries, departments and agencies.
He explained that quality service delivery remains central to the administration’s governance philosophy, urging public institutions to ensure that services are delivered promptly, fairly and in line with citizens’ expectations.
“SERVICOM is all about quality service delivery. It must be timely, fair and acceptable,” he said, stressing that public confidence in government institutions depends largely on their ability to provide responsive and efficient services.
Call for Discipline and Institutional Excellence
While commending the university management for the achievements recorded since the institution’s establishment, Solomon challenged staff and students to complement government investment by maintaining high standards of discipline and professionalism.
He encouraged the university community to promote decent dressing, responsible conduct and a culture of excellence capable of sustaining the institution’s growing reputation.
The former Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly noted that preserving institutional values would help secure a lasting legacy for future generations of students and academics.
Concern Over Abuse of School-Run Concession
Solomon also expressed concern over the misuse of school-run concessions granted to public servants.
He observed that although the policy was introduced to enable workers pick up their children from school, some employees abuse the privilege by failing to return to work afterwards, while others continue claiming the concession despite no longer having school-age children.
He urged workers to demonstrate integrity and responsibility, warning that abuse of welfare policies undermines productivity and weakens public confidence in government institutions.
University Seeks Greater Collaboration
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Prof. Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, represented by Patrick Ajieh, said the institution remains committed to competing favourably with leading universities globally.
He appealed for sustained government support to accelerate infrastructure development, research, innovation and academic excellence, while reaffirming the university’s commitment to partnering with the Delta State Government in advancing Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda through quality education and improved service delivery.
