Delta Restricts Movement For May Environmental Sanitation Exercise

Delta Government Announces Movement Restriction For Monthly Sanitation Exercise
THE Delta State Government has announced restrictions on vehicular and human movement across the state for the May 2026 monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday 30 May.
According to a public notice issued ahead of the exercise, movement will be restricted between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to ensure effective participation and compliance by residents.
Government Emphasises Clean Environment
The government stated that the sanitation exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health standards, and prevent the spread of diseases across communities.
Residents were advised to clear overgrown weeds around their homes and business premises, desilt drainage channels to reduce the risk of flooding, and maintain proper sanitation within a minimum radius of 20 metres around their surroundings.
Monitoring Teams To Enforce Compliance
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Jamani Ejiro, alongside officials of the Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies, is expected to monitor compliance in various parts of the state during the exercise.
Authorities warned that residents who fail to comply with the sanitation directive would be arrested and prosecuted before Mobile Magistrate Courts.
Residents Urged To Participate Actively
The government appealed to residents to actively participate in the exercise, stressing that environmental sanitation remains a collective responsibility necessary for maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
Officials also noted that regular sanitation exercises play an important role in controlling environmental pollution and improving the overall wellbeing of citizens across the state.
