Delta Communities Face Daily Outages As TCN Undertakes Network Maintenance

Major Transmission Upgrade Underway
THE Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced the commencement of a comprehensive maintenance programme at the Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation, a move aimed at enhancing the reliability of electricity supply across several communities and industrial corridors in Delta State.
The maintenance operation, which runs from 4 June to 16 June, will be conducted daily between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Electricity sector stakeholders have consistently identified preventive maintenance as a key requirement for improving grid stability and reducing equipment-related disruptions across the national transmission system.
Technical Improvements Planned
According to TCN, engineers are carrying out the installation of a bus coupler circuit breaker while simultaneously rehabilitating five isolators located on the main busbar.
These upgrades are designed to improve operational efficiency, facilitate better load management and enhance the overall performance of the transmission facility.
Power sector analysts say such interventions are necessary to extend equipment lifespan, minimise operational risks and support more reliable electricity delivery to consumers.
Communities and Businesses Affected
The maintenance exercise will affect several transmission feeders serving key residential areas, industrial facilities and commercial centres across Delta State.
Among the feeders expected to experience temporary disruptions are Effurun, Warri, Sapele, Osubi, PTI, Enerhen, Refinery I and II, Agbarho/Eku, Aladja, Ughelli/Shell, Isoko/Kwale and others.
The temporary outages may affect households, educational institutions, manufacturing facilities and business operations connected to the affected feeders during the daily maintenance period.
Restoration Planned Every Evening
TCN stated that electricity supply will be restored each day after maintenance activities are completed at 5:00 p.m.
The arrangement will allow the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to resume normal power distribution to customers for the remainder of the day.
The company emphasized that the maintenance programme is preventive rather than corrective, meaning the work is being undertaken to avoid future failures and improve the resilience of the network.
Long-Term Benefits Expected
While acknowledging the inconvenience associated with temporary power interruptions, TCN said the exercise would ultimately deliver improved service quality and network stability.
The company noted that modern transmission systems require continuous maintenance and periodic upgrades to maintain reliability, improve operational efficiency and support growing electricity demand.
TCN therefore appealed to consumers for cooperation throughout the maintenance period, assuring them that the project is intended to provide a stronger and more dependable transmission network for Delta State and surrounding areas.
