Asagba Azinge Establishes Land Regulation Committee to Strengthen Administration in Asaba
THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, FNIALS, FICMC, has inaugurated a committee to strengthen land regulation and tackle illegal multiple sales of property in Asaba and its satellite communities.
The monarch inaugurated the Asaba Land Regulation Committee on 3 November 2026, at his palace, ahead of the regular meeting of the Asagba Executive Council.
The initiative reflects the traditional institution’s effort to promote transparency, responsible land administration and orderly community development.
Traditional Institution Moves Against Illegal Resales
During the inauguration, Obi Chief Ubaka Attoh, Onihe Ahaba, administered the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office to the committee members on behalf of the Asagba.
Obi Lt. Chukwuemekalim Ajufoh heads the committee as chairman. Its other members are Obi Nduka Ogochukwu, Obi Chidebe Nwanazia, Chief Philip Ejike Nwokolo, Ogbueshi Patrick Oliko, Onoi Ahaba, Ogbueshi Uche Nwajei, Ogbueshi Chike Onyemenam, Ogbueshi Joe Akaraiwe and Ogbueshi Shedrack Rapu.
All Okpala-Ukwus and Sir Elue Mokogwu also form part of the committee. Meanwhile, Dr. Offiah Felix, Esq., will serve as secretary.
Addressing the members, Asagba Azinge tasked them with developing practical and effective procedures to check indiscriminate land transactions, particularly the illegal practice of selling the same parcel of land to multiple buyers.
He emphasised that land dealings must follow transparent procedures and respect due process. In addition, he called for strict adherence to the relevant traditional and statutory protocols guiding property transactions.
Transparency, Peace & Investor Confidence
The Asagba noted that effective land administration goes beyond resolving individual property disputes. Rather, he described it as a critical foundation for sustainable development, peaceful coexistence and investor confidence.
He therefore urged the committee to discharge its responsibilities with fairness and integrity while protecting the broader interests of Asaba and its satellite communities.
According to the monarch, bringing greater order to land administration would help strengthen public confidence in property transactions and support the community’s long-term development aspirations.
Committee Assures Asagba of Diligent Service
In his response, the chairman, Obi Lt. Chukwuemekalim Ajufoh, expressed appreciation to the Asagba for selecting the members to undertake the assignment.
He assured the monarch that the committee would deploy its members’ experience and knowledge to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them.
Ajufoh further pledged that members would uphold integrity, diligence and commitment in the discharge of their duties.
He also reaffirmed their determination to place the collective interest of Ahaba at the centre of their work as the committee begins its assignment.
The inauguration consequently establishes a new traditional mechanism for addressing concerns over land transactions and promoting greater accountability in land administration across Asaba and its satellite communities.
