Civil Servants Get Housing Loans, Full Exit Benefits In Fresh FG Reforms

Federal Government Announces Worker Welfare Reforms
THE Federal Government has unveiled a broad welfare package for civil servants, including a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme, revised allowances and full exit benefits for retirees.
The measures were announced in Abuja by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who said the reforms reflect the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of public servants.
She described the package as a shift from policy declarations to practical support aimed at easing economic pressures on workers.
100 Per Cent Exit Benefit for Retirees
A major highlight of the reforms is the introduction of an Exit Benefit Scheme that guarantees retiring civil servants 100 per cent of their total annual emoluments.
The scheme is expected to take effect from 1st January 2026.
According to government officials, the initiative is designed to ensure that workers leave service with financial dignity and greater post-retirement stability.
The announcement is likely to be welcomed by many public servants concerned about retirement insecurity and delayed benefits.
Housing Loan and Allowance Review
The government also introduced a ₦10 billion housing loan programme aimed at increasing home ownership among federal civil servants.
Officials said the facility is intended to provide workers with easier access to financing for residential property acquisition.
In addition, the administration approved upward reviews of Peculiar Allowance, Duty Tour Allowance, estacode and book allowances to reflect current economic conditions.
Training, Compensation and Protection Expanded
Mrs. Walson-Jack said the Employee Compensation Scheme has also been fully operationalised to support workers affected by job-related injuries, disability or death.
She added that officers attending approved government training programmes would now receive full Duty Tour Allowance, whether travel is involved or not.
The government said the package demonstrates renewed attention to productivity, morale and long-term workforce development.
