APC Appeal Committee Receives Five Petitions Over Delta Primaries

APC Panel Begins Review Of Complaints
THE All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly Primaries Appeal Committee for Delta State has confirmed the receipt of five petitions arising from the party’s recently concluded National Assembly primary elections in the state.
Chairman of the committee, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the APC secretariat in Asaba on Tuesday.
According to him, the committee has already commenced the process of reviewing complaints submitted by aggrieved aspirants, party members, and stakeholders over the conduct of the primaries.
Dr. Ujam explained that the committee was constituted in line with the party’s guidelines governing the conduct of primary elections and internal dispute resolution mechanisms.
Committee Monitoring Primary Processes
The appeal committee chairman revealed that the five-member panel initially arrived in Delta State shortly after the House of Representatives primaries before reconvening again following the senatorial district primaries.
He noted that the committee’s assignment covers petitions relating to both the House of Representatives and Senate primary elections conducted by the party in the state.
“We have been receiving petitions and we will prepare our reports later. The process is still ongoing because the day is not yet over,” Ujam stated.
He, however, declined to disclose specific details of the petitions or the identities of those involved, insisting that the committee would handle all complaints professionally and in accordance with party procedures.
Internal Tensions Within Delta APC
The development comes amid growing tensions within the Delta State chapter of the APC following controversies surrounding some of the party’s primary elections.
Several aspirants and political groups have publicly expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the exercise, alleging irregularities, procedural violations, and disputes over result declarations in some constituencies.
Political observers believe the petitions may further test the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms ahead of preparations for future electoral contests in the state.
The appeal committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to the APC national leadership after concluding its review process.
Party Seeks Stability
Party stakeholders say the appeal process is crucial in maintaining unity and confidence within the APC following the highly competitive primaries.
Analysts note that how the party handles the petitions may influence internal cohesion and political stability within the Delta APC ahead of future elections.
For now, party members and aspirants await the committee’s recommendations as the APC leadership moves to address grievances arising from the primaries.
