NIGERIA and Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin preparations for the 2026 Hajj. The agreement was signed in Jeddah by NAHCON Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, and Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister of Hajj, Abdulfatah Mashat, marking Nigeria’s formal participation in the pilgrimage.
The MoU outlines key arrangements, including pilgrim slot allocations, service contracts, visa processing, accommodation, and welfare standards. Both sides agreed on strict timelines — 4 January 2026, for camp booking payments and 1 February 2026, for uploading transport and lodging details on Saudi’s Nusuk/Masar digital platform.
The deal also establishes joint monitoring and accountability frameworks to ensure high-quality services covering transportation, catering, health, and safety.
Prof. Usman described the MoU as “a critical milestone” toward a more efficient and transparent Hajj operation, assuring that Nigerian pilgrims in 2026 will enjoy better logistics, enhanced digital systems, and improved welfare.
Saudi officials reaffirmed their commitment to deadlines and strict compliance with Hajj guidelines, emphasizing that only pilgrims with valid visas will be allowed to perform the rites.
