99.99 Hectares For Agribusiness: Oborevwori Woos Investors As Olam Targets South-East, South-South Markets

DELTA State is set to strengthen its agricultural sector as Olam Agri prepares to establish an animal feed production plant at Ogwashi-Uku.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has presented the company with a Certificate of Occupancy covering 99.99 hectares of land for the proposed facility. The presentation took place at Government House, Asaba, on Wednesday.
The investment is expected to address animal feed shortages across the South-South and South-East. It could also reduce the regions’ dependence on supplies from the South-West and strengthen the livestock value chain.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for genuine investors. He stressed that peace, due process and cooperation remained essential to attracting businesses and sustaining economic growth.
According to the governor, the land allocation represents an important step towards expanding agricultural opportunities in Delta. He added that investments in food production could stimulate economic activities, create jobs and improve livelihoods.
Oborevwori said his government would continue to support reputable companies willing to contribute to the state’s development. Moreover, he emphasised the importance of partnerships in boosting food production and improving food security.
The governor also commended traditional rulers and other stakeholders for helping to sustain the peace and cooperation needed to attract investments. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to agricultural productivity and the welfare of residents.
Meanwhile, Olam Agri’s Managing Director, Amit Agarwal, said the company had identified the South-South and South-East as strategic locations for its next animal feed production facility.
He explained that Olam already operated plants in the South-West but wanted to bring production closer to markets in the two regions. Consequently, the proposed facility would help improve supply and address the existing feed production deficit.
Agarwal thanked the Delta State Government for supporting the project. He also expressed the company’s readiness to work with the government, traditional institutions and the host community to ensure successful implementation.
The Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, HRM Obi Dr. Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, urged Olam Agri to ensure that residents benefited directly from the investment. He called on the company to provide employment, internship placements, skills development and technology transfer opportunities.
If implemented as planned, the project could expand Delta’s agricultural investment base while improving access to animal feed and creating opportunities for local communities.
