BAL To Unveil Six New Basketball Courts Across West Africa

By TAYO TAIWO (T. T.) OLUWOLE
THE Basketball Africa League (BAL) is set to unveil six new basketball courts across West Africa over the next three weeks as part of its community development programme.
The projects will give six communities newly built or refurbished courts. In addition, the spaces will support basketball and other community activities.
According to the BAL, each project has its own story and local significance. However, they all share a broader objective: using basketball to connect communities, create opportunities and inspire young people.
The latest projects also form part of the league’s wider plan to support the construction and refurbishment of 1,000 basketball courts across Africa.
Beyond the sport itself, the initiative targets youth development. The new facilities will give young people more accessible spaces to practise, develop their skills and engage with their communities.
Moreover, the courts are expected to provide safer environments for recreational activities. They can also serve as gathering points where young people build relationships through sport.
For the BAL, the investment reflects a broader approach to basketball development across the continent.
Rather than focusing only on elite competitions, the league is also backing grassroots infrastructure and community participation.
As the six courts are unveiled, the initiative will further expand the physical spaces available for basketball across West Africa.
The projects therefore represent another step in the BAL’s longer-term effort to use the sport as a platform for youth development, community engagement and social impact.
