Oborevwori’s Road Project Brings New Hope To Eyara, Imode

Oborevwori Extends Infrastructure Development to Eyara & Imode Communities
Road Project Advances in Ughelli South
THE Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding infrastructure to underserved communities as construction progresses on the internal road linking Eyara and Imode communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
During an inspection of the project, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, described the road as a major intervention that reflects Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda of inclusive development.
According to him, the road project responds to a long-standing demand by residents who have sought a direct link between the two communities for more than eight years.
Government Targets Better Rural Connectivity
Izeze explained that the first phase of the project covers 750 metres and was approved by Governor Oborevwori despite prevailing budgetary constraints.
He added that future phases are expected to extend the road to neighbouring communities as more resources become available.
Describing Eyara and Imode as predominantly agrarian settlements that had experienced limited government presence over the years, the commissioner said the administration was determined to improve access to markets, social services and economic opportunities through better road infrastructure.
He noted that the project also represents the first major road intervention in Eyara, the hometown of veteran journalist and former presidential spokesman, Chief Ima Niboro.
Progress Meets Engineering Standards
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, Izeze disclosed that about 70 per cent of the drainage component had already been completed.
He said he personally inspected the drainage reinforcement before concrete casting and confirmed that the work complied with approved engineering specifications.
The commissioner nevertheless directed supervising engineers to address minor defects observed during inspection to ensure the project met the state’s quality standards before completion.
He also cautioned contractors against seeking contract reviews on the basis of exchange rate fluctuations, noting that adequate mobilisation had been provided to facilitate early procurement of construction materials.
Community Welcomes Long-Awaited Project
Residents described the road project as a transformative intervention that would improve mobility and stimulate socio-economic activities within the area.
Speaking on behalf of the community, President-General of Eyara Community, Mr. Gbogbo Tawarien, thanked Governor Oborevwori for approving the project after years of waiting.
He said the road would ease transportation, improve access to neighbouring communities and enhance the overall appearance of the community.
Tawarien also commended Commissioner Izeze for facilitating the project, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the community whose efforts had translated into meaningful development for local residents.
