Government Advances Rural Transformation Agenda

THE completion of Phase II of the Emevor-Orogun Road project has been hailed as a major step forward in Delta State’s drive to expand development beyond urban centres.

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the project reflects Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s determination to ensure that rural communities benefit from modern infrastructure capable of improving mobility and stimulating economic growth.

Following an inspection visit to the project site, Aniagwu said the road represents another practical demonstration of the administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which focuses on delivering meaningful opportunities and sustainable development across the state.

Overcoming Engineering Challenges

The commissioner disclosed that the project required extensive engineering interventions due to the difficult terrain along the route.

He explained that contractors carried out significant earthworks, drainage construction and soil replacement to strengthen the road foundation and protect it from environmental challenges.

According to him, specialised machinery was deployed to navigate swampy areas and ensure that the project met required standards.

Aniagwu noted that completing critical earthworks before the peak of the rainy season helped the contractor maintain momentum despite adverse weather conditions.

Indigenous Firm Earns Government Praise

Aniagwu commended Emorock Concepts Limited for delivering the project according to schedule and specifications.

He said the company’s performance demonstrates the growing capacity of indigenous firms to undertake and successfully complete major infrastructure projects.

The commissioner added that local contractors continue to play a vital role in supporting government efforts to accelerate development and create value within the state economy.

Residents Already Feeling the Impact

Beyond its engineering success, Aniagwu said the project is already transforming lives by improving accessibility and reducing travel difficulties for residents.

He observed that improved road connectivity would enhance trade, facilitate agricultural activities and create easier access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.

The commissioner recalled positive feedback received from residents during the inspection, including expressions of gratitude from community members who described the road as a long-awaited intervention.

Protecting Infrastructure for Future Generations

Aniagwu emphasised the importance of community participation in preserving public assets.

He cautioned residents against obstructing drainage systems, noting that such actions could lead to flooding and compromise the lifespan of the road.

According to him, drainage structures are installed based on technical and hydrological assessments and should be allowed to function as designed.

Awaiting Formal Commissioning

With the project substantially completed, only minor finishing works remain before commissioning.

Aniagwu assured residents that all outstanding issues would be addressed promptly, adding that Governor Oborevwori remains committed to expanding infrastructure development to every part of Delta State.

He said the Emevor-Orogun Road stands as another example of the administration’s strategy to use infrastructure as a tool for economic growth, social inclusion and long-term rural transformation.
