Super Falcons Crush Egypt 6-2, Storm Into WAFCON Last Eight

NIGERIA’S Super Falcons delivered a ruthless attacking display to beat Egypt 6-2 and book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The defending champions dominated the contest at the Stade Moulay Hassan. They overwhelmed the Egyptians with pace, movement and clinical finishing. The victory also set up a high-profile quarter-final showdown with Cameroon.
Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead in the 21st minute. She calmly converted a penalty after the Video Assistant Referee confirmed a handball inside the box.
The Falcons continued to press. Their pressure paid off in first-half stoppage time when Gift Monday finished a brilliantly worked short-corner routine involving Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide.
Egypt reduced the deficit moments later to end the first half trailing 2-1. The goal briefly raised hopes of a comeback.
Nigeria quickly ended that belief after the restart. Substitute Uchenna Kanu fired home in the 57th minute to restore the two-goal advantage and put the Falcons back in complete control.
The champions kept attacking. Two more penalties, both awarded after VAR reviews, allowed Christy Ucheibe and captain Rasheedat Ajibade to extend the lead with composed finishes.
Nigeria saved the best for last. Deep into stoppage time, Gift Monday and Ajibade combined brilliantly before setting up Joy Omewa, who tapped in her first-ever WAFCON goal to complete a memorable six-goal performance.
The emphatic victory restored confidence after a mixed group-stage campaign. The Super Falcons now shift their attention to Cameroon as they continue their pursuit of a record-extending continental title.
