Education Key To National Progress, Asagba Tells Educators

Asagba Advocates Continuous Professional Development for Teachers
THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has called on teachers and education stakeholders across Nigeria to continuously improve their professional skills and adopt modern teaching methods to enhance learning outcomes.
The monarch made the appeal while receiving members of the High Impact Conference for Educators (HICE 2026) team, led by its Convener, Mrs. Uche Monu, during a courtesy visit to his palace in Asaba.
According to him, education remains one of the most important foundations for national development, stressing that the rapidly changing global environment requires educators to remain updated with emerging teaching techniques and contemporary educational practices.
Need for Modern Teaching Approaches
Prof. Azinge noted that teachers occupy a strategic position in shaping future generations and must therefore be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare students for evolving social and economic realities.
He observed that effective teaching now extends beyond traditional classroom instruction and requires innovation, creativity and the ability to adapt to changing educational demands.
“The quality of education a nation provides for its young people largely determines its future. Our teachers must be equipped with the necessary skills and resources to deliver effective instruction, while our schools must provide an environment that encourages learning, creativity and innovation,” he stated.
Call for Improved Learning Environment
The monarch stressed that improving educational outcomes requires a collective effort involving governments, school owners, community leaders, parents and other stakeholders.
He argued that creating a conducive learning environment is just as important as developing the capacity of teachers, noting that pupils and students can only thrive academically when schools provide the necessary facilities and support systems.
Prof. Azinge expressed concern over persistent challenges facing the sector, including inadequate infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms and insufficient support for educators.
He urged authorities at all levels to prioritise investment in education as a critical tool for sustainable development.
Students Encouraged to Remain Focused
The Asagba also advised students to remain committed to their academic pursuits, maintain discipline and take advantage of available educational opportunities.
According to him, education remains one of the most effective instruments for personal growth, social mobility and national transformation.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Asaba community to supporting programmes and initiatives that promote educational advancement, youth empowerment and human capital development.
HICE 2026 Targets Educational Improvement
Earlier, the Convener of the High Impact Conference for Educators (HICE 2026), Mrs. Uche Monu, said the visit was aimed at formally briefing the monarch on the conference scheduled for 6 June 2026, at the South-End Event Centre, Asaba.
She explained that participation in the conference had been made free to encourage wider attendance and promote continuous professional development among teachers, particularly across the South-South region.
Mrs. Monu noted that the conference is designed to expose educators to contemporary teaching strategies, strengthen professional competence and contribute to improved educational standards.
