Oborevwori Tightens Grip On Delta APC Ahead Of 2027 Polls

APC Moves to Consolidate Ahead of 2027
POLITICAL activities within the All Progressives Congress in Delta State are increasingly reflecting a strategy built around unity, internal stability and early electoral preparation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the centre of the evolving political structure is Sheriff Oborevwori, whose emergence as the APC governorship candidate appears to have strengthened the party’s internal cohesion following his defection into the ruling party.
Unopposed Governorship Victory
The clearest demonstration of that consolidation emerged during the APC governorship primary where Oborevwori, running unopposed, secured affirmation from 345,375 party members across Delta’s wards.
Declaring the result in Asaba, Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Victor Abba, confirmed that the governor met all constitutional requirements and polled the highest number of valid votes.
Party leaders repeatedly pointed to the peaceful conduct of the exercise as evidence of growing maturity within the Delta APC structure.
Peaceful Primaries Become Key Narrative
Across the state’s 270 wards, party officials consistently described the primaries as orderly, transparent and violence-free — a narrative the governor himself reinforced after casting his vote in Oha Ward, Okpe Local Government Area.
According to Oborevwori, the absence of violence and candidate imposition marked a major shift in Delta’s political process.
Political observers say the APC’s emphasis on internal democracy is aimed at projecting discipline and stability ahead of the 2027 contest.
Senatorial Contests Reflect Changing Alignments
The party’s senatorial primaries also revealed shifting political dynamics across Delta State.
In Delta Central, Senator Ede Dafinone defeated former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege by a wide margin.
In Delta North, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa emerged victorious over incumbent Senator Ned Nwoko, while Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas retained dominance in Delta South.
Endorsements and Ethnic Alliances
Beyond the primaries, endorsements from influential stakeholders have added momentum to the governor’s political positioning.
A major endorsement came from the Itsekiri nation during a reception in Warri where political leaders and traditional rulers endorsed both Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oborevwori for second terms in office.
The event also saw Oborevwori receive the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI), the highest honour of the Itsekiri nation, making him the first non-Itsekiri recipient of the title.
Infrastructure and Governance Messaging
The governor used the occasion to highlight ongoing projects including the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Road and other infrastructural interventions across riverine communities.
As political calculations toward 2027 intensify, Delta APC leaders appear focused on building a campaign narrative around governance performance, ethnic inclusiveness and party discipline.
