2027: Extend Your Love For Me To President Tinubu, Oborevwori Tells Religious Leaders
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged Christian leaders across the state to extend the support and goodwill they have shown his administration to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori made the appeal on Wednesday when the Executive Committee of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Delta State, led by its Chairman, Bishop Abos Willie, paid him a special prayer visit at Government House, Asaba.
The Governor said his membership of the APC obliged him to work for the success of President Tinubu and other candidates of the party, while urging Christian leaders to support the political process through prayers and responsible mobilisation.
He attributed his emergence as Governor in 2023 to the grace of God and the prayers of Christian leaders, appealing to the PFN leadership and other religious leaders to continue praying for the country, President Tinubu and the Delta State Government.
Oborevwori said the 2027 elections should not be viewed solely from the perspective of political calculations, stressing that God’s will remained supreme in determining who would occupy positions of authority.
“I am an APC man. I must work for my President and I must work for my candidates. I will continue to speak for them,” he said.
The Governor urged Christians who believed his administration was performing well to extend the same goodwill to President Tinubu and other APC candidates.
“If you love me and you believe I am doing well as Governor, extend that love to Mr. President and to all my candidates. That is the truth,” he stated.
He appealed to the Christian community to intensify prayers for President Tinubu, particularly for wisdom, strength, good health and divine guidance as his administration implements ongoing reforms.
Oborevwori said the reforms had begun to strengthen the financial capacity of state and local governments, citing improved ability of local councils to execute development projects as evidence of their impact.
“Before now, to pay salaries was a problem. To construct roads was a problem. Councils could not even execute projects. But now, local governments can do projects because the reforms are working,” he said.
The Governor said his administration had remained focused on translating available resources into tangible development through the execution of infrastructure and other projects across Delta State.
He also stressed the importance of responsible political participation by Christians, noting that political decisions affect virtually every aspect of society and that the Church should not completely distance itself from the political process.
Oborevwori further appealed for continued prayers for peace and stability in Delta State, stressing that the prevailing security situation must be sustained.
He thanked the PFN executives and other Christian leaders for their prayers and support, assuring them that his administration would remain committed to good governance, development and the welfare of the people.
“Pray for Mr President, pray for the state. Pray for good governance. Pray for peace and unity. I know God will continue to lead us,” the Governor said.
Earlier, the PFN leadership offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, his administration, Delta State and Nigeria, seeking divine wisdom, protection, peace and continued progress.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, PFN Chairman in Delta State, Bishop Abos Willie, commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as significant achievements in infrastructure, peace and development, as well as his growing national profile.
Willie assured the Governor that the Christian body would continue to intensify prayers for him, his administration and the 2027 elections.
He disclosed that prayer centres would be established across the state to seek divine intervention for peaceful campaigns and a violence-free electoral process.
The PFN Chairman said the fellowship was particularly impressed by the Governor’s handling of potentially volatile situations and his efforts to maintain peace across Delta State.
He also disclosed that the PFN had strengthened its structures across the state, with about 4,150 ward officers and coordinators expected to be deployed.
According to him, the fellowship had also established a College of Theology with more than 300 students and was completing a hatchery project as part of its contribution to economic empowerment.
Willie assured the Governor of the fellowship’s continued prayers for divine favour, wisdom and strength, as well as the recognition and development of Delta State at the national and international levels.
He also commended Oborevwori for organising the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, describing it as a significant initiative capable of attracting investments and advancing the state’s economic development.
