ZLP Picks Swani Buba As Consensus FCT Senatorial Candidate

ZLP Adopts Swani Buba As Consensus Candidate For FCT Senate Seat
THE Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has officially adopted Hon. Swani Buba as its consensus candidate for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial election ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The decision followed the party’s senatorial primary held on May 26, 2026, where Buba emerged as the sole aspirant and was declared winner by consensus.
Consensus Decision At Party Primaries
The electoral panel chairman, Nwosu Eugene, announced Buba’s emergence after the conclusion of the exercise, confirming that no other aspirant contested the ticket.
Following the declaration, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a Certificate of Return to formalise his candidacy.
Party officials described the process as peaceful and rooted in internal agreement.
Strong Local Support And Grassroots Base
According to the party leadership, Buba’s selection followed extensive consultations within the ZLP structure in the FCT.
They highlighted his long-term residency of nearly four decades in the territory and his strong connection to grassroots communities as key factors in his emergence.
Campaign Focus On Education And Representation
Buba has previously spoken on challenges affecting public education in the FCT, particularly declining standards in primary and secondary schools.
He has pledged to prioritise quality representation for residents if elected to the National Assembly.
The ZLP says it views his local experience as a strategic advantage in the upcoming election, as it seeks to strengthen its political presence in the FCT.
