ZLP Picks Nkwoala For Delta Governorship Race

ZLP Produces Governorship Candidate for 2027 Delta Election
THE Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has elected Comrade Emeka Nkwoala as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State governorship election, positioning the party for what it describes as a vigorous challenge against the ruling political establishment.
Nkwoala, a former Delta State Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), emerged at the party’s governorship congress held in Asaba under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His emergence marks a significant step in ZLP’s preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle as political parties across the state begin consolidating structures ahead of the contest.
Candidate Promises Alternative Leadership
In his acceptance speech, Nkwoala expressed confidence in the party’s ability to provide an alternative leadership model for Delta State.
He stated that his administration, if elected, would work closely with candidates seeking election into the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly to implement policies aimed at improving governance and public service delivery.
According to him, the party intends to focus on strategic development initiatives capable of accelerating economic growth, improving social services, and expanding opportunities for residents across the state.
Nkwoala said his years of political experience and involvement in party administration had equipped him with the knowledge needed to lead the state and mount a strong challenge in the forthcoming election.
Acknowledging Oborevwori’s Achievements
The ZLP candidate acknowledged ongoing infrastructure projects being executed by the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly major road, bridge, and flyover projects.
He noted that the governor had recorded visible achievements in infrastructure development, especially through projects handled by construction giant Julius Berger.
However, Nkwoala argued that Delta State possesses sufficient resources to achieve even greater developmental outcomes.
He maintained that his administration would seek to improve upon existing achievements through prudent resource management, transparency, and people-centred policies.
“No doubt, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has performed well in infrastructural delivery. But considering the resources accruing to the state, I shall do far better because unlike him, I have no godfather but I have God as a Father,” he said.
Education, Healthcare Top Agenda
The governorship candidate outlined key policy areas that would form the foundation of his campaign.
Among them are the expansion of access to education, improvement of healthcare delivery, and accelerated infrastructure development.
Nkwoala pledged to pursue a free education policy designed to increase educational opportunities for children and young people across the state.
He also promised to strengthen healthcare services by improving accessibility and affordability, particularly for vulnerable populations.
In addition, he said his administration would invest in road infrastructure and other public works projects aimed at stimulating economic activity and improving living standards.
Party Looks Ahead to 2027
Also featured at the congress was the emergence of Sir Aghogho Green Meretin as the party’s candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly.
Meretin, a former Majority Leader of Ethiope West Local Government Area, was described by party leaders as a grassroots mobiliser with extensive political experience.
As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of 2027, ZLP leaders say the party is focused on building a statewide structure capable of attracting support from voters seeking alternative political platforms.
The party expressed confidence that its campaign agenda would resonate with residents and strengthen its competitiveness in the governorship race.
