Security Crackdown Yields Kidnap Rescue, Gun Recovery & Drug Bust In Delta

Delta Police Record Fresh Security Breakthroughs
THE Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, successfully rescuing a kidnap victim without the payment of ransom, arresting three suspected armed robbers, and recovering illicit drugs in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The latest operations reflect the Command’s intensified efforts to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related crimes and drug trafficking through proactive intelligence gathering and strategic deployment of personnel.
Kidnap Victim Rescued Without Ransom
Operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKU) successfully rescued a kidnap victim unharmed following a coordinated operation driven by actionable intelligence.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was launched after a report was received on 11 June 2026, regarding the abduction of a male victim by armed men in Okpanam on 10 June.
Acting on the information, operatives immediately commenced a strategic manhunt, combining intelligence gathering with targeted operational deployment aimed at locating the kidnappers and securing the victim’s freedom.
The Command disclosed that sustained pressure mounted on the abductors eventually forced them to abandon the victim at their hideout and flee.
The victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed by investigators and reunited with his family without any ransom payment.
Police authorities confirmed that efforts remain ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Patrol Team Arrests Suspected Robbers
In a separate operation, operatives attached to the Distress 01 Patrol Team of the Department of Operations arrested three suspected armed robbers during a routine motorised patrol in Asaba.
The operation, carried out on 12 June 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., led to the interception of a commercial tricycle conveying three occupants.
A search conducted during the operation resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol.
The suspects were identified as Ewendeze De-Grace, 19; Eruweghene Amede, 20; and Chukwuemeka Arinze, 21.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspects are allegedly linked to the Aro Bagger Confraternity.
The Command stated that both the suspects and the recovered firearm remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Drug Raid Leads to Arrest
The police also recorded another success in the fight against drug-related crimes following an intelligence-led raid carried out by operatives of the Kwale Division.
The operation, conducted on 10 June in Kwale, targeted a location suspected to be used for illicit drug distribution.
Upon sighting the police team, two male suspects reportedly fled the scene, while a female suspect identified as Ananyi Vivian, 45, was arrested.
According to the Command, preliminary investigations indicated that the premises served as a distribution point for illegal drugs.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted having knowledge of the illicit activities taking place at the location.
Investigators are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects and working to dismantle the wider criminal network connected to the operation.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security
Commending officers involved in the various operations, Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised their professionalism, vigilance and dedication to duty.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive intelligence-led policing strategies aimed at reducing crime and improving public safety across Delta State.
