DESOPADEC Sets August Deadline For Oduga School Hall Project

Commission Ramps Up Monitoring of Ongoing Projects
AS part of efforts to fast-track infrastructure delivery in oil-producing communities, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has intensified supervision of ongoing projects across its mandate areas.
This commitment was demonstrated during an inspection of the Assembly Hall under construction at Oduga Secondary School, Ushie, by Dr. Charles Olisa, a member of the Governing Board representing the Ndokwa ethnic nationality.
The visit underscored DESOPADEC’s determination to ensure that development projects are executed efficiently and delivered according to approved specifications.
August 2026 Completion Target Set
Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Olisa directed the contractor to ensure full compliance with all contractual obligations, technical requirements and quality benchmarks established by the Commission.
He emphasized that the project must be completed by August 2026, warning that DESOPADEC would not tolerate delays or substandard execution.
The Board member stressed that accountability, professionalism and timely delivery remain essential requirements for all contractors engaged by the Commission.
Educational Infrastructure at the Forefront
According to Dr. Olisa, the Assembly Hall project reflects DESOPADEC’s commitment to improving educational facilities across oil-producing communities.
He noted that investments in educational infrastructure contribute significantly to community growth by creating better learning environments and supporting youth development.
The facility, he explained, is expected to serve both academic and community functions, providing a modern space for school programmes, meetings and social activities.
Value for Money and Sustainable Development
Dr. Olisa reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that public resources are utilized effectively.
He stressed that DESOPADEC maintains a strict policy against poor-quality projects and remains focused on delivering infrastructure that offers long-term benefits to host communities.
The inspection exercise, he said, is part of a broader strategy by the Commission’s leadership to ensure transparency, efficiency and sustainability in project implementation.
Aligning with State Development Priorities
The DESOPADEC Board member noted that the Commission’s interventions are closely aligned with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which prioritizes meaningful development, inclusive opportunities, realistic reforms and enhanced peace and security.
He commended the leadership of Board Chairman Olorogun Barr. John Nani and Managing Director/CEO Chief Festus Ochonogor for sustaining efforts aimed at accelerating development across the Commission’s mandate areas.
Stakeholders Express Optimism
The Assembly Hall, when completed, is expected to address space challenges within the school, improve educational activities and provide a functional venue for community engagements.
Community members and stakeholders have welcomed the project and expressed confidence that its successful completion will further enhance educational development and strengthen social infrastructure within the Ndokwa area.
The optimism reflects growing expectations that DESOPADEC’s ongoing interventions will continue to deliver meaningful improvements in the lives of people across Delta State’s oil-producing communities.
