Oborevwori’s Performance Strongest Case For 2027 Re-election — Ifeajika

THE Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Olisa Ifeajika, says Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s record in office remains the strongest argument for his re-election in 2027.

Ifeajika made the assertion while speaking on Politics HQ on News Central Television.

He said his support for Oborevwori went beyond party loyalty. According to him, the governor’s performance across Delta State had convinced him that the administration deserved another term.

Performance Beyond Party Politics

Ifeajika described Oborevwori as his political project for the 2027 elections because of the governor’s achievements.

He stressed that the campaign would focus on what the administration had delivered rather than merely relying on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

“The performance of our governor speaks for itself. Everybody is applauding what the man is doing in the state,” he said.

Ifeajika further described Oborevwori as “a good product that is selling itself”.

He argued that the governor could have won even without the APC because, in his view, residents had recognised his performance.

Why Tinubu Also Has Oborevwori’s Support

Ifeajika also explained Oborevwori’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

He said there was no contradiction between the governor seeking a second term in Delta and supporting Tinubu for another term at the federal level.

According to him, Oborevwori joined the APC and therefore supports the party’s presidential candidate.

He said the governor’s declaration that his political project was Tinubu’s re-election referred specifically to the presidential contest.

Subsidy Removal & Economic Hardship

Ifeajika also defended the Tinubu administration’s removal of fuel subsidy.

He acknowledged that the policy created economic hardship but argued that the previous subsidy regime had become unsustainable.

According to him, Nigeria had reached a point where government borrowed money to finance subsidy payments.

He compared the economic adjustment to farming, where clearing the land and planting must come before harvesting.

“What we are going through in this country now is like a farmer. To farm, you first clear the bush before planting, weeding and eventually harvesting. It takes a process,” he said.

States Have More Resources

Ifeajika argued that subsidy removal had increased the resources available to state governments.

He said the additional funds had helped states meet salary and pension obligations.

He recalled instances in which some states struggled to pay workers for several months, resulting in severe hardship among civil servants.

According to him, such situations have reduced considerably, with states now better positioned to meet their obligations.

However, he acknowledged that Nigerians still face economic difficulties.

The key issue, he said, was how governments deploy available resources to ensure that people at the lower end of society feel the impact of economic reforms.

APC Banks on Oborevwori’s Record

As the 2027 elections approach, Ifeajika said the APC in Delta would campaign around its candidates’ records, policies and projects.

He said the party would communicate the achievements of the Oborevwori administration to voters and allow residents to assess the government’s performance.

According to him, the governor’s projects have strengthened the relationship between the administration and the people.

He added that Oborevwori’s performance had helped deepen public acceptance of the government’s direction.

Ifeajika said the party was confident that the governor’s record would remain a major factor in the 2027 contest.
