THE Ohanaeze Ndigbo Traders and Independent Workers Association, ONTIWA, has commenced the construction of a 180-lock-up-shop plaza in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended the association for the investment, saying the project would support trade, create jobs and stimulate economic activities in the area.
The governor was represented at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday by the Executive Director, Projects, DESOPADEC, Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu.
He said investments of this nature remained important to the growth of local communities.
According to Oborevwori, the Delta State Government would continue to support policies that encourage entrepreneurs and attract private investment.
He said the MORE Agenda seeks to create opportunities and strengthen economic activities across the state.
The governor also restated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful environment for businesses and residents.
He said Delta had continued to welcome hardworking Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic or geographical backgrounds.
As a result, he urged investors and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities available in the state.
“Delta State has always welcomed hardworking Nigerians from every part of the country, and we will continue to provide a peaceful and enabling environment where everyone can live, work, invest and prosper,” he said.
ONTIWA President in Delta State, Mazi Chibuzor Samuel Okoye, welcomed the government’s support for entrepreneurs.
He said government policies could play a major role in helping businesses grow and create employment.
Okoye added that entrepreneurs contributed far more than taxes to the economy.
According to him, they also drive innovation, provide jobs and help communities build prosperity.
He therefore assured the state government of ONTIWA’s continued partnership.
The association’s president also expressed appreciation to the host communities for their hospitality and support.
He said the communities had received members of the association warmly and helped them establish themselves within their new environment.
Beyond the new plaza, Okoye encouraged members to pursue broader investment opportunities.
He urged them to identify opportunities across Nigeria, seek partnerships within Africa and remain open to ideas and investments from other parts of the world.
The proposed 180-shop plaza now adds to the growing number of private commercial investments expected to expand business activities in Delta State.
When completed, the facility is expected to accommodate more businesses and create fresh opportunities for traders, workers and residents in Okpe.
