Oborevwori Celebrates Olu of Warri at Fifth Coronation Anniversary
…Commends monarch’s role in peace, unity and development
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, on the fifth anniversary of his coronation, describing the monarch as a visionary traditional ruler whose reign has contributed to peace, unity and socio-economic development in Warri Kingdom and Delta State.
The governor, in a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, commended the Olu for what he described as five years of responsible traditional leadership, cultural preservation and efforts to strengthen harmonious relationships among the diverse ethnic nationalities in the state.
Five Years of Traditional Leadership
Oborevwori said that since ascending the throne of his forefathers, Atuwatse III had demonstrated exemplary leadership and remained committed to the welfare and progress of the people of Warri Kingdom.
According to the governor, the monarch’s reign had also helped to strengthen cooperation among communities and promote a shared vision of peace and development.
He noted that traditional institutions continued to play an important role in maintaining social stability and preserving the cultural identity of communities, adding that the Olu had combined respect for the customs and traditions of the Itsekiri people with a broader commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Over the past five years, the governor said, the monarch had distinguished himself through a leadership style that had inspired confidence among his subjects and encouraged positive engagement across ethnic and cultural boundaries.
A Bridge-Builder in Delta State
Describing Atuwatse III as a man of peace and profound integrity, Oborevwori said the Olu had continued to serve as a bridge-builder at a time when unity and cooperation remained essential to the development of Delta State.
He said the monarch’s commitment to promoting peaceful relations between the Itsekiri people and other ethnic nationalities had contributed to stability and strengthened the atmosphere for development within Warri Kingdom and beyond.
The governor added that the preservation of cultural heritage need not be separated from the pursuit of modern development, noting that traditional institutions could remain important partners in promoting social cohesion and economic progress.
Call for Continued Support
Oborevwori urged the people of Warri Kingdom to continue to support their monarch and remain united behind his vision for a peaceful, prosperous and cohesive Iwere nation.
He said the achievement of sustainable development required patience, cooperation and a collective commitment by the people to the ideals of peace and mutual understanding.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I warmly felicitate His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, on the occasion of his fifth coronation anniversary,” the governor said.
“Over the past five years, His Majesty has distinguished himself through responsible traditional leadership, dedication to the welfare of his people and commitment to the preservation of the customs and traditions of the Itsekiri nation.
“His reign has also been marked by efforts to promote peace, unity, socio-cultural cooperation and harmonious relationships between the Itsekiri and other ethnic nationalities in Delta State.”
Prayers for Continued Leadership
Oborevwori said the fifth coronation anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of traditional leadership in promoting unity, preserving cultural values and supporting development.
He prayed that Atuwatse III would continue to enjoy sound health, wisdom and strength as he provides leadership for the people of Warri Kingdom.
“I celebrate His Majesty on this auspicious occasion and pray that God will continue to grant him sound health, wisdom and strength to provide purposeful traditional and cultural leadership for his people,” the governor added.
