Governor Denounces Killing as ‘Barbaric’
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has strongly condemned the killing of a young man, Mena Otidi, allegedly by a police officer, describing the act as unlawful and a grave violation of human life.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, the governor characterised the incident as “barbaric” and “unprovoked,” stressing that no citizen deserves to be subjected to such brutality under any circumstance.
He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of the government’s support.
Commendation for Swift Police Action
Governor Oborevwori also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for taking prompt disciplinary measures.
The actions reportedly include the approval for the dismissal and prosecution of officers implicated in the incident.

The governor insisted that all officers connected to the incident—particularly those captured in widely circulated video footage—must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
He emphasised that justice must not only be delivered but must be visibly seen to be done to restore confidence in the justice system.
